On yesterday's front page, Markos made the formal announcement about The Big Tent: space and a hang-out for the bloggerati during the Democratic National Convention here in Denver.  How would you like another opportunity to hang out?

As regulars of Saturday Morning Garden Blogging know, the Garden Blogging Garden is in Denver.

Not merely in Denver, but a mere 2 miles from Downtown, in the beautiful Baker Historic District, one of the oldest remaining residential neighborhoods in the City.

Indeed, because of our front porch, my house is (or, at least, was) listed as a "notable home" in the Historic Denver guide to the Baker Neighborhood.

If you're coming to Denver for the convention, I'd like to host an open house on the afternoon, and into the evening hours, of August 24.

The question is: if I plan it, will you come?

Frankenoid :: If I Build It, Will You Come?
The locals would really like to meet with our visitors, but not all of us will have the opportunity to spend much time in the Big Tent -- I know that I will still need to go to work, get my kids off to school, and brow-beat them into doing their homework (stupid school district -- why in hell Denver Public Schools didn't delay the start of the school year until after the convention is beyond me).

Our home is very convenient to downtown and to public transportation.  We're just a few blocks from the Alameda light rail station, and on the 0 bus line -- a straight shot down Broadway from downtown.  It's even easy to get to by car, as it's near I-25, and pretty much smack dab in the middle of the Denver metro area.

But I need to get a feel of whether our blogger-visitors are interested in meeting with us outside the environs of the convention and the Big Tent.  'Cause I'd hate to throw a party and not have anybody show up!

I don't see how it would have helped to delay the start of school.  Parents would just have to pay for a couple extra weeks of summer camp or otherwise take care of them.  I say better to have them in school.  At least at my kid's school, they go relatively easy on the homework for the first couple of weeks anyway.

Illegal is never a noun

Count me in. (4.00 / 1)
Really mean it this time. I will be down in Denver Saturday through Friday. I would love to visit with at your beautiful home with the bloggers.  There are a couple of public events on Sunday, 8/24. The Santa Fe street party and the DNCC welcoming party(ies). An open house would give us all time to catch all the parties!!

I'm bummed about the convention being the same week school starts. When I ran for the DNC I figured my daughter who was six at the time could travel with me and experience the convention as a 10 year old. What I didn't count on was a)the convention would be in our home state, which is neat, but it's not a far away, exotic location to travel with my daughter and b)that the convention would be the first week of school. I hope she can come down for part of the festivities, but she already says, "Mom, I can't miss school! " Guess I can't complain about her school ethic.

I just figured the school district (4.00 / 2)
would want to give at least the high school students an opportunity to participate in some way with this historic opportunity.

Well, that's true (4.00 / 1)
I'm thinking about my second grader who will only sort of get what's going on.

Keep in mind (4.00 / 1)
That Sunday there are quite a few events scheduled to kick off the convention.  I think you'll still get plenty of the blogger folks, as a get together is always fun.

revolution from within

That's why I'm thinking (4.00 / 1)
in terms of an open house, so folks can wander in over a longer period of time as schedules allow.

But that's also why I'm trying to get an idea of interest.

Wohoo! (4.00 / 2)
Count me in! And let me know if I can help you out in anyway.

What I will ask of you all (4.00 / 1)
is to bring the booze... I'm thinking local beers.

I would be happy to (0.00 / 0)
Think I'll bring something from Avery, Left Hand or Flying Dog since they so generously donated to Save the Ales.

I would love to! (4.00 / 1)
I really want to see your wonderful garden, and even more excited to meet you!

Take heart! http://codeneonblue.net
