Because I'm heading off in the morning to Glenwood Springs to attend RootsCamp, and will be wheeling around the state for the following week, trying to subject my son to stately history and culture, this week's theme for Colorado pop culture trivia is tourist attractions!

As always, you may not Google, but you may be as funny as you like with your answers.  Assuming I can get a good wifi hotspot, winners and the correct answers will be posted Sunday night.  Have fun, I know I'm going to!

1. Where is Buffalo Bill's grave? (I know it's easy--consider me starting my vacation early.)

2. Colfax Avenue holds a place the the USA record books for ?

3. Ripley's Believe It Or Not verified this site's claim that from it you could see six states. Where and what is it?

4. Steve Canyon -- what, who, why?

5. The easy part: Where would you find this marker? The hard part: what entity is in charge of the site?

I'm up early... I'll try. (4.00 / 1)
1. Easy? I can't remember if it's the Lookout Mountain exit or the Genesee Park (where the buffalo roam) exit off I-70 West of Denver, Jeffco. (Anyone here remember Sam's .32  biker bar that used to be at Lookout Mountain? Don't know if the building is there any longer but my cousin and I used to go up, drink, dance, play pool, drink, camp out and wait for the sun rise. At least we didn't drive home! (Those were fun, pre-21 years-old times.)

2. Most Motels in ____(blank) miles. (I have no idea where/why I came up with that, or if it's even true. If this is incorrect, I have another idea.)

3. Pikes Peak? You can see KS, OK, TX, NM, WY and CO.

4. Steve's Canyon? No idea.

5. Four Corners near Cortez, Colorado. Where Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico meet. Managed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Because I think it's entirely on Tribal Lands. Navajo Reservation?

Have a fun vacation. Where you off too?

You had a much funner young adulthood than I did! (0.00 / 0)
#1, Lookout Mountain, is right.  There's also a museum at the grave site that's pretty neat, and has fun interactive stuff for kids.

#2 might well be true, but I don't know for sure. Someone else got the answer I was thinking of.

#3--same as #2, probably true but not the one I meant. I'll give you honorary credit for it.

#5 is right on both counts! I have it as managed by Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation Department, but that's close enough.

I am going to the RootsCamp in Glenwood Springs tomorrow, and then Mike and I are going to just wander around at random.  Any recommendations for the W/NW/N region?

Take heart! http://codeneonblue.net

Oooo! You all shoudl stop by in Edwards and have (0.00 / 0)
a margarita with me.  I hope to get to RC for awhile. Hope I get there in time to see John's presentation. I have a parade and two unity events here at home.  Trying to juggle all.

My restaurant: Fiesta's! New Mexican Cafe & Cantina, Exit 163, Edwards. Go south off the highway over the river and first building right, in Edwards Plaza and you will find our place. We serve breakfast starting at 7:30am and serve all day 'til 10pm.  It's a 50 minute drive to Glenwood Springs from Edwards.

If you stop, ask the manager to call me or give you my number (I'm in the phone book too.) when you arrive and I'll come join you.

Buffalo Bill's Grave (4.00 / 3)
is on Lookout Mountain.

Colfax is the longest continuous city street (I'm not sure if that's how it's phrased, but that's what it is)

McCain/Palin: Because all cats are gray in the dark

his gravestone is on lookout mountain (4.50 / 2)
but he isn't actually buried there!  no idea where he was actually laid to rest.

He's buried there (4.00 / 3)
A number of other towns have claimed to have his grave, but he's actually buried on Lookout Mountain.

In the 40s, the Wyoming American Legion placed a bounty for Buffalo Bill's corpse and the Colorado folks stood guard on Lookout Mountain to prevent any grave robbing. They actually blasted a deeper hold to bury the body in so that it would be impossible for Wyoming grave robbers to steal the body without having heavy equipment!

very interesting! (4.00 / 3)
I learned in elementary school from one of my classmates, who is a descendant of his, that there still really is no sure idea of where he is.  After cruising the net on the topic for a little while this morning, I can see that it is still really an unconfirmed mystery.

Those dang Wyoming grave robbers!  Mercy!

[ Parent ]
Amazing! (0.00 / 0)
That's the kind of great extra facts I love to learn when I do this!

Yes! (0.00 / 0)
That's the stat I was thinking of for Colfax.  One website says it's 40 contiguous miles!

Take heart! http://codeneonblue.net

[ Parent ]
40 Miles with the Same Name (0.00 / 0)
Very close is Cicero Ave which begins at Governor's Highway near Park Forest in the southern suburbs and ends at Dempster Street in Evanston and then extends to the Willmette limits, just beyond Old Orchard Road in the north. The total distance for Cicero as named is a little less than 40 miles, transiting the former 2nd City.

Let's see (5.00 / 2)
#2 - Is Colfax the longest continuous street?
#3 - As for this answer, I'm just pulling it out of you-know-where, is it Pikes Peak?
#4 - Steve Canyon  - named after Steve Austin, the $6 million man. (I kid!)

Just for you (4.00 / 1)
I'm working at it.....

Believe it or not.... (0.00 / 0)
You are at least in the right general genre with your Steve Austin joke!

Some answers (4.00 / 3)
I am pretty sure Four Corners is a National Monument, so that's the Park Service, right?

As for Colfax, I think it is the longest straight line urban street.  Sepulveda Boulevard in Los Angeles is actually longer, but it winds all over the place.

Illegal is never a noun

Those Californians! Always horning it! (0.00 / 0)
Maybe their street is not contiguous? Or maybe they craftily lengthened it to try to beat us?

Take heart! http://codeneonblue.net

Horning IN.  Didn't mean to cast any aspersions!

#4 Think "Sunday" and WWII.

I'm outta here!  See some of you tomorrow!!

Well, I know that (4.00 / 1)
Steve Canyon was a newspaper comic strip -- other than that, I don't know about a Colorado connection.  The artist lived here?
