The erosion of our Constitutional Rights often occurs incrementally and under the radar. You may be amazed (or horrified) about how many civil rights and liberties you have actually lost. Many of the erosions of our rights have been buried in Executive Orders and Acts presented as positive social legislation. It is the Power and Prerogative of the People to defend and insist on saving and restoring our Constitutional Rights in a democracy.

We are talking about core American notions of justice in a democracy:

  • 1st Amd Speech Rights
  • 1st Amd Freedom of Religion
  • 4th Amd Protection Against Unreasonable Search & Seizure
  • Due Process Right to be Advised of Charges
  • Right to Speedy trial by Peers
  • Right to Counsel in Criminal Charges
  • Privacy Rights from Government Intrusion
  • 8th Amd Prohibition Against Cruel & Unusual Punishment

For these reasons I am posting an announcement I received below that may be of interest to those of you (from either or no party) interested in your Constitutional Rights.

morgancarroll :: Help Restore Our Constitutional Rights!

On June 26, 2007, the ACLU and other nonprofit organizations will join together for a national day of action in Washington, D.C. They'll be calling on Congress to restore habeas corpus, fix the Military Commissions Act and restore all our constitutional rights.

Next week, ProgressNowAction will join with the ACLU of Colorado and numerous co-sponsors* to host “teach-in’s” in Colorado Springs (June 11), Denver (June 12) and Ft. Collins (June 14). Whether or not you have booked your trip to Washington, we hope you'll come to one of our teach-ins!

If you attend one of our upcoming teach-ins, you can enter a drawing to win a free trip to attend the rally and storm the Hill in Washington, D.C.

To learn about the ACLU of Colorado's teach-ins, go to:
www.aclu-co.org/support/June26DOA_reg_form.htm

For information on the ACLU's June 26th Day of Action to Restore Law and Justice, go to: www.juneaction.org

Come, learn about the Military Commissions Act and get trained in online and traditional grassroots organizing. You'll learn how to create and present messages to the media, impact the national security debate, and more. We'll also give you tips on meting with elected officials.

Trainings include dinner and beverages, and all teach-in attendees will be entered into a drawing for a free trip (hotel & airfare) to attend the June 26th Day of Action to Restore Law and Justice in Washington, D.C. Want to learn more? Read the agenda. Then, sign up.

*Co-Sponsors include: American Constitution Society, Bill of Rights Defense Committee, Center for Progressive Leadership, Colorado Progressive Coalition, Common Cause, Latina Initiative, Muslims for America, Progress Now, The Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Coalition, The White House Project, Working Women 9to5.
